Today was set up perfectly for total failure. We had Nate’s eldest son’s birthday party until 1pm. Plan was to ski a Rocky Patsey in the afternoon with the tiny window of time we had. We both believed Catherine’s gate closes at 3pm but a buddy thought 330 and we asked a liftie who also said 330. So we took our time getting over there and arrived at the gate at 303 to find it had just closed. So we left the ski area boundary and skinned up towards the peak of above Catherine’s when Nate realized he must have left his skin mesh back at Supreme chair. He retrieved it and we finally got out to Rocky Point.
Unfortunately we made poor choices in our lines and found no real rhythm to our run. By the time we were skinning up Rocky a crust began to form since it got so warm up there today. Patsey would have been a zipper crust by the time we’d be skiing it so we bailed and skied back to Goldminer’s. A very weak and pathetic day of skiing on our part. The one positive, we were salivating over the view of Sunset Peak. It is filled in quite good from the top it seems. Another storm and some stability and Sunset is going to be good to go.
