The snow storm here in Utah has passed. There aren’t any storms on the horizon for now. The high pressure has allowed Alta Ski Patrol to get some more terrain open. Unfortunately the snow pack is still unusual and some areas have remained closed. Backside from the top above the avalanche crown is still closed. Devil’s Castle is still closed.
But the Baldy Chutes and high Baldy Shoulder did open up. We didn’t get up there right away but the conditions were still holding at chalky up high with more forgiving loose snow as you got into the chutes. Both Chutes were getting a little bit moguly but not bad. The apron below Dog Leg was all big avalanche debris so Dog Leg remained closed.
Skiing should be good all week with the cold temps keeping the shaded snow from entering melt phase. Hopefully Devil’s and East Castle open soon!
