Utah’s winter has finally decided to start this past week. These series of storms have doubled our base and hopefully soon Alta Ski Patrol will start opening up terrain. The High Traverse, in the traditional sense, has still not opened this season. Maybe tomorrow is the day, but also maybe not. The snowpack is really difficult especially on north facing slopes.

We haven’t skied much since the holiday crowds flew in, but today we finally braved the hordes. After a 75 minute commute from Sandy, we were falling asleep and weren’t very motivated. But once that cold air hit us we woke up and it was game time. The lift lines were long but we took the singles line and were loaded within 5-7 minutes. Starting on Fred’s Trees and then the Tower 10 we found fun snow on High Boy. But always looking for whiter pastures, we decided to hike the low Shoulder and found small stashes of perfect powder. That was the highlight of the day for sure. Winter is back!
