No powder day is the same. They’re all unique experiences in their own way. And that’s a good thing, I suppose. Sometimes, our expectations aren’t met, but other times, they’re surpassed. The unknown is part of what makes a powder day so exciting—the anticipation of it all. You never know exactly how the day will unfold. Fortunately, on this particular day, as on most Alta powder days, we were blown away by how much fun one could have dancing down a mountain in a cloud full of powder. Thank you, Alta, and a big thanks to Nivis for keeping us warm and dry on this deep day in paradise.
This past storm dumped 22 inches of fluff on Alta’s slopes. Saturday was the storm day when everything off the High Traverse was gobbled up. Sunday saw intermittent blue skies, some recrystallizing snow floating in the cold air, and openings of Baldy Shoulder and Backside.
Backside still had some rocks in the upper traverse but it is filling in slowly. The snow was light and playful anywhere that it wasn’t tracked out. After a few laps we headed into the backcountry to hit Rocky Point and Patsey Marley. The snow was phenomenal on both slopes.
A hearty shoutout to Nivis outdoor apparel company for the sweet jackets. You’ll be seeing more of these coats as the season progresses. They are techy and sleek and kept us warm all day.
