After one of the driest and most nerve-racking starts to winter we’ve seen in well over a decade, last night’s surprise 4 inches of graupel felt like a legit shot in the arm. It wasn’t deep by any means, but it was enough to finally cover up some of the sketch, fill in the cracks, and remind us what winter is supposed to feel like.
Alta Ski Patrol wasted no time getting after it, opening up a ton of terrain, including Tower 10 and in a milestone moment for the season, dropping the ropes on Fred’s Trees for the first time. That alone was enough to put smiles back on frozen faces all over the canyon.
Even better, the forecast is finally starting to look like something skiers can believe in again. A solid, real-deal storm is lining up right around Christmas Day, and if it delivers, we could be flipping the script on this season in a big way. Snow dances are officially back on. Let it snow!
