Last night into today’s storm wasn’t hyped much. But a quick 11 inches dropped out of the sky and it made for some real soft skiing. We weren’t even planning on skiing today – we figured there’d be about 4 or 5 inches, not enough to decently cover the hard recently frozen layer underneath. As the snow piled up though our thoughts rapidly changed on the matter. After Nate’s lovely wife agreed to get out of work a few hours early to watch the kids, we set off at 1:30 with the sole intention of heading to the sidecountry. With only 11 inches A-Frame was tempting Nate but he wasn’t sold. After inspection of a similar slope, it was determined that the landing would be deep enough so he sent it, twice. On our way to Patsey we considered Tuscarora again. It looked absolutely bomber, the only problem was we could hardly see it. We really wanted a drone shot of Tusc but it just wasn’t in the cards. We kept battling with low visibility, which seems to be a thing for us now. We wait for good lighting for the shot, eventually giving up on the sun we ski only to find bluebird moments after we descend. Today as we strolled up to the parking lot at 6 sure enough, beautiful blue skies. Oh well. The snow was really good on the way down Patsey. There was some scouring that left crusty snow exposed but the soft stuff was plentiful enough to make the hard almost unnoticeable. The skiing could still be very good early tomorrow as the sun did not get a chance to ruin the fresh snow.
