The final piece to the puzzle fell in to place today with the opening of Devil’s Castle. Alta Ski Patrol were able to get it all ready to go by 10am this morning. The area was opened from the Sugarloaf chair all the way out to the Apron.
The snow was light and creamy and fast. Some avalanche debris was scattered early on in the traverse above Sneaky Pete’s and some more in the middle after those small cliff bands and a bit more out at the wall. Early season rocks were still abound but actually there was really decent coverage for this early in the winter.
We skied Sneaky Pete’s first thing. The entrance skier’s right was very spicy and I had to climb back out of it but the center punch line was good to send. We skied Bat Cave and the chute to its right. The snow out below the far wall was the best of the day. Cheers Alta is 100% open (besides the Baldy Chutes and East Castle of course).
