Alta Ski Area will be releasing 75th Anniversary videos each month this winter. Showcasing some of Alta’s best moments over the past 75 years they are certainly worth a watch. This month’s video focuses on the gelande jumping event that Alta used to host starting in the late 1940’s. An event that was supposed to measure how far a skier could air seemingly turned into a freestyle event, as you will see towards the end of the video. It appears that even back in the day Alta skiers were pushing the limits of freestyle throwing big tricks with big consequences. If you missed last month’s video be sure to check that one out as well. Alta powder skiing doesn’t get much better!

Hello:
I am Dr. Calvin Ross seeking my Gelande Jump contest picture on Sunday April 22, 1967, wherein I fractured my back.
I won the junior Gelende Jump contest in the morning. After lunch the Alta Gelande jump officials ask me if I would like to pre-jump the professional afternoon jump contest. I agreed! What the jump officials did not tell me is they salted the jump in run. When I arrived at the appointed time to perform the pre-jump, I stepped up the heal two steps to obtain a little more speed to the jump take-off. As I stepped into the pre-jump lane towards the take-off I quickly noticed I was going much faster than in my previous winning morning jump. I did not even jump and flew way too far, landed at the bottom of the mind-dump upside down onto my head breaking my back. I was rushed down little cottonwood canyon road to the emergency room in the Salt Lake City hospital. X-rays revealed 2 fractures of my back at Thoracic #6 and #7.
My current published book is called, BACK PAIN & BRAIN HELP the #1 disability worldwide. I am presenting the “Million Dollar Healing Symposium” to all universities worldwide and would like to present the ABC video filmed on the above named date.
Thank you for your immediate correspondence once you discover location of the film or how to contact ABC for this specific film.
